Solidarity & Pride in the Castle

DePride x Carnival at DePauw University, April 21 2018

Putnam Pride was invited to participate in DePride x Carnival by the CDI and several DePauw student organizations that hosted the event, including QSOC (Queer Students of Color), United DePauw, and the Caribbean Student Association. DePauw community, particularly people of color at DePauw, have had a difficult week because of recent hateful and threatening messages found on campus. DePride x Carnival was an event where the students expressed joy and pride in their various intersecting identities and generously invited the broader community to celebrate with them.

PPI members brought rocks to paint and wind twirly thingies, and hung out in Bowman Park all afternoon. There was free delicious food from Putnam Inn, Bon Appetit and a gyros food truck. The music and dancing were great too, though our table was a little far from most of the action. We tabled near with friends from the Damien Center for HIV/AIDS prevention, and we signed up several new members for our PPI list as well. Thanks to Matt Abtahi, the student groups, and everyone who stopped by to see us!
